Diabetes Mellitus, or Madhumeha in Ayurveda, is a condition characterized by excessive urination, increased thirst, fatigue and elevated blood sugar levels.

In Ayurveda, Madhumeha is described as one of the types of Prameha caused due to derangement of Kapha and Meda along with vitiation of Vata. It is often correlated with Type 2 Diabetes in modern science.
The imbalance leads to excess sugar in the urine and blood, along with symptoms like fatigue, increased hunger, obesity and slow healing.

Nidana (Causes)
Sedentary lifestyle, improper diet (high in sugar and fat), excessive sleep, genetic predisposition, obesity, mental stress and lack of physical activity.
Samprapti (Pathogenesis)
Deranged Kapha and Meda obstruct the channels and vitiate Vata, leading to impaired metabolism and urinary system function, resulting in excessive urination, sweetness in urine and weakness.
Lakshana (Symptoms)
Frequent urination, excessive thirst, increased hunger, fatigue and weakness, blurred vision, slow healing of wounds
Bheda (Types
Madhumeha is a Santarpanajanya Vyadhi (nourishment disorder) and has similarities with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
Complications
If unmanaged, it can lead to obesity, hypertension, heart disease, kidney problems, nerve damage, skin infections, vision impairment and delayed wound healing.
